The Shadetree Partnership, Inc. (Shadetree) was created in 1990 to provide public awareness and understanding in the area of urban forestry. Shadetree is committed to environmental awareness and community involvement. These commitments are achieved through active participation with community groups, such as Irvine Ranch Water District, National Arbor Day Foundation, California Re-LEAF, Volunteer Center Orange County, Soroptimist International and the National Charity League.
The mission of Shadetree is to be a hands-on, volunteer organization that promotes more livable communities through the planting and stewardship of shade trees.
The Shadetree Partnership has a mailing list for volunteers who live in the surrounding area. Volunteers represent community groups, such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Key Clubs, Volunteer Center Orange County, National Charity League, college/university students, sororities, fraternities, and a variety of other interested individuals.
To date, Shadetree and its volunteers have planted over 25,000 trees and nearly 5,000 groundcover at 145 different locations.
Calendar year 2006 alone had Shadetree and its volunters grow, nurture and plant 1,809 trees and 2,648 groundcover at 31 different sites. (These sites incuded: UC Irvine Campus, UCI Farm School, Shipley Nature Center, El Toro High School, Beckman High School, City of Santa Ana, City of Irvine, Irvine Regional Park, Upper Sulpher Creek Restoration Site, Bommer Canyon Wilderness Area, Rattlesnake Park & Recreation Facility, San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary and the San Joaquin Duck Club.
In 2007 (through June 30th), Shadetree and its volunteers planted 262 trees and 733 groundcover at 18 different sites. (These sites included: UC Irvine Campus Housing, Jeranimo Open Space, El Toro Cemetery, Panorama School, United Voices, Duck Club and various IRWD facilities.
Current inventory at Shadetree Nusery is 8,000 trees and 800 groundcover. 1,100 plants have been "assigned" to the Great Clean Air Tree Planting Project and 800 for the Boy Scouts of America - Youth Camp Facility
Shadetree is a non-profit community based organization and has received a 501(c)(3) status through the Dept.of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service. Contributions to Shadetree are tax deductible under Section 170 of the IRS code. Registry of Charitable Trust #106134.
Note: Certificates of participation are available for students wishing to receive community service hours.
